Red Tractor Farm Assurance - Assured Dairy Farms (ADF) formerly known as NDFAS was established to provide assurances about dairy products to the consumer. The key principles were that they were produced to a high level of safety and hygiene and derived from animals managed in a welfare-friendly manner.
The scheme is a first purchaser orientated scheme. This means that those “buying” the milk i.e. dairy companies join the scheme and individual farmers consigning milk to them must be assessed to the ADF standards . Members must demonstrate strict adherence to the scheme standards which are monitored independently by SFQC every 18 months. SFQC certifies virtually all dairy producers in Scotland.
