SFQC

Freedom Food is a UK farm assurance and food labelling scheme set up by the RSPCA dedicated to raising farm animal welfare.  Set up by the RSPCA in 1994, Freedom Food is a charity in its own right, non-profit making, and entirely independent from the food industry.

The scheme only approves well-managed farms that meet all the RSPCA's strict welfare standards.  The standards are developed by the RSPCA's team of farm animal welfare scientists and take into account leading scientific, veterinary and industry advice.

Freedom Food is an assurance scheme that covers the whole life of an animal from birth to slaughter, including rearing, handling and transport.  Traceability checks are carried out on labelled food from the shop back to the farm.

SFQC has been selected to carry out Freedom Food assessments in Scotland.  SFQC has unrivalled experience and significant spread in offering assessment services to many sectors of the Scottish farming and food industry.  As a result, the tie-up with SFQC offers the opportunity for integrated audits saving producers time and money.

A significant number of poultry and pig businesses have already been assessed by the SFQC team, and the administration work for Freedom Food in Scotland is being carried out from SFQC head office. More of the Freedom Food schemes will be added to the SFQC portfolio during the coming months.
