The Livestock Transport Approval Scheme has been established to help the haulage, farming and equine industry meet the requirements of EU Welfare in Transport Regulation (EC) 1/2005 concerning Road Vehicle (and Container) Approval.
Information on the EU Welfare in Transport Regulation (EC) 1/2005 can be found here .The Regulation requires that from 5 January 2007 vehicles used for transporting animals on long journeys over 8 hours, in connection with an economic activity, must be inspected and approved by a competent authority of a Member State, i.e. SEERAD in Scotland or a body designated by SEERAD.
SEERAD has designated SFQC Ltd. as a certifying body to carry out these inspections for farmed cattle, sheep, pigs, goats, deer and horses/ponies.
Long journeys are defined as one that exceeds eight hours from when the first animal is loaded.
