Quality Meat Scotland
was set up in 1990 to provide the Industry and Consumers alike with
total assurance that animals, produced for the food chain, are reared
to a stringent set of standards covering all aspects of animal welfare,
food safety and general good practice.
The standards are reviewed annually by the QMS Standard Setting Committee. A number of experienced and practical farmer and wider industry representatives from across Scotland sit on this committee. The Standards are finally approved and set by the Board of QMS which includes consumer representatives.
Membership of the scheme is voluntary. Farm members must demonstrate strict adherence to the scheme standards which are monitored independently by SFQC.
