Safehaven LogoThe Safe Haven Scheme was launched in 2005 by the British Potato Council (BPC) and is supported by organisations right across the potato industry.

The principle purpose of the scheme is to provide practical protection against potato ring rot, safeguarding the future of Britain’s potato industry. It offers major advantages for all concerned and combined with existing seed classification schemes and phytosanitary controls, the scheme provides the best chance of achieving exclusion.

As well as ensuring full seed stock traceability the Safe Haven audit considers other important safety issues such as transportation; storage and use of machinery.
A recent report has also identified an increase in erwinia chrysanthemi and participation within this scheme will also reduce the risk of this bacterial disease.

Therefore the more seed producers that sign up to the scheme the more these bacterial risks will be reduced.
