Congratulations Richard Campbell
22 December 2011
SFQC's very own assessor Richard Campbell is the proud winner of the Maltsters' Association of Great Britain - Malting Barley Grower Competition 2011.
Following a very successful competition in 2010, the Maltsters'Association of Great Britain launched another competition for 2011. Growers who take a pride in their malting barley were invited to enter. The aim of the competition was to highlight the very best in growing, storing and marketing of malting barley.
The process of the competition explored growers' understanding of the market and end user specifications, and their application of technical and business improvement skills. A panel of industry judges then visited applicants' farms in July/August, to take into account the marketing of the crop before announcing Richard Campbell as the Scottish winner in October 2011. Runner up this year was SQC grower, Will Hamilton from Coldingham.
Each year UK maltsters purchase around 750,000 tonnes of malting barley in Scotland.
