Safe and Local Supplier Approval

SALSA is a web based scheme.

You can review the SALSA standard, to which your company would need to comply if seeking accreditation, free of charge on the downloads page, or follow this link: Salsa downloads Cheesemakers may also wish to look at the additional Specialist Cheesemakers Association module.

The flow diagram, also available on this page, gives a good outline of the full accreditation process.

Your next step should be to register as a supplier on the site (again, at no cost) which will result in a password being issued. Fuller access to the site's pages is then possible.

You can then join the scheme online for a first year charge of £100* + vat. This will give you access to further information such as scheme guidance notes and 'tools and tips', and a full web page listing as a supplier. This information, in the regional supplier directory, about your company and it's product's is then available to over 1000 buyers who are also registered with SALSA.

If at this stage, having reviewed the SALSA standard, you are happy to progress to audit without further assistance, you book and pay for the audit online (£465* + vat, all inclusive). An auditor matched to your location and sector will contact you directly and arrange to visit the site at a mutually convenient time.

The audit typically lasts ½ a day when the premises, operations and documentation are assessed against the SALSA standard. Following a successful audit, certification is valid for 12 months.

On-going annual membership, including the audit fee and web listing costs £515 + vat, all inclusive.

*If you pay first year membership and audit fee at the same time, you will also benifit from the above package rate (saving £50).

If you feel that you would benefit from some external support in preparing for audit, then SFQC can offer SALSA mentoring at very competitive rates. This is done by registered SALSA mentors and usually involves reviewing the premises and current HACCP and quality documentation, and advising on any improvements or additions needed to comply with the standard. The service aims to ensure a smooth audit when that time comes!

SFQC contract with a number of professional mentors, located across Scotland, experienced in both the SALSA scheme and all industry sectors, and would be pleased to offer your company this service, if it would be of benefit. Please click here for more information.
