The Scottish Quality Wild Venison (SQWV) assurance scheme is the result of an 18 month development project commissioned by Forest Enterprise in association with The Association of Deer Management Groups, The Scottish Association of Gamedealers and Processors and The Scottish Gamekeepers Association. This represents the first occasion on which the public and private sectors of the Scottish wild venison sector have worked together on an initiative which encompasses the entire industry.
The SQWV scheme’s aims are to:
i) respond pro-actively to consumers about the way wild venison is produced.
ii) improve food safety and meet the requirements of the Food Safety Act 1990.
iii) address environmental and animal welfare responsibilities.
Furthermore the scheme is a reaction to the significant negative effect which FMD has had on the industry.
